Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program

Use Your Data from Performance Improvement Strategies in Acute Coronary Syndromes to complete ABIM's Self-Directed PIM and earn credit for ABIM Maintenance of Certification
The data collected through Performance Improvement Strategies in Acute Coronary Syndromes can be used to populate and complete ABIM's Self-Directed PIM Practice Improvement Module. The Self-Directed PIM provides one pathway for earning practice performance credit in ABIM's Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.
Completing the Self-Directed PIM involves three basic steps:
- Enter aggregate performance data for at least five measures from an existing project, registry or EHR;
- Choose one target measure for improvement and implement a change to achieve improvement;
- Test the impact of your intervention and reflect on your learnings. You will need to have the aggregate results for at least five quality measures, with a minimum of 10 patients per measure, to enter into the Self-Directed PIM.
You may also report on an already-complete QI project using the Self-Directed PIM, so long as the data is within the past 24 months.
To order and complete the Self-Directed PIM you must be enrolled in ABIM's Maintenance of Certification program. You then order the Self-Directed PIM from your MOC home page within the "Physician Login" section of ABIM's website:
- Login to your MOC home page at https://www.abim.org/online/
- Enter your ABIM Candidate Number and Password.
- From your ABIM home page click on Order Practice Improvement Module and from the select module bar, choose Self-Directed. Then click Place Order.
- The Self-Directed PIM will now be accessible from your home page. To begin working on the module click work on module under the Self-Directed PIM.
When you successfully complete the Self-Directed PIM, you will earn 20 points toward the Self-Evaluation of Practice Performance component of MOC. For more information about the Self-Directed PIM and other PIMs, go to ABIM's website.
